Alms collecting tradition

While alms collecting, people most often dress up and sing Christmas carols while going from yard to yard. The procession of alms collectors must consist of angels, king, devil, gypsy or Jew – symbolizing people, who are alien to the community -, as well as the bearer of a star. A very rare tradition the lifting of the gates on Christmas night, still exists in some of the villages. The gates were lifted off where young girls, future brides, lived.
