Józef Piłsudski was born on 5 December 1867 in Zalavas (Region of Švenčionys). He died on 12 May 1935 in Warsaw. His body was buried in Vavel of Krakow, but the heart, following the will of Piłsudski in Vilnius, in the pantheon of Rasos Cemetery, near the remains of his mother Maria Billewicz Piłsudska. During 1930-1934, every year Piłsudski with his family went on holidays to Pikeliškiai Manor belonging to him. For the Poles, J. Piłsudski is the creator of independent Poland. For the world – the victor of one of the largest battles “Miracle Near Wisla”, which stopped the expansion of Bolsheviks.
