In 1989, the scientists of French National Geography Institute determined that the European geographical center is in Lithuania, 26 km up north from Vilnius. Sculptor’s Gediminas Jokūbonis composition decorates the geographical center – granite column with a star crown meant to commemorate the Lithuania’s admission in to the European Union. On 1 May of each year, here, Europe day events and events to commemorate the anniversary of Lithuania’s admission in to the European Union are held.
