Beekeeping and honey making tradition has been known and nurtured from the oldest times in Vilnius region. In the past, it was thought that the bees may only live with a good and honest person. The beekeepers were friendly towards each other, exchanged hives or bee families. Beekeeping brought benefit for the whole family; the family had a natural medicine – honey, wax; candles were casted from wax. Beekeeping was also beneficial for agriculture, because the bees pollinated the plants. During the season, a good beekeeper collects various type of honey – linden, meadow or buckwheat; these types are the most popular.
