Easter is a holiday with many traditions, some of which are still cultivated, but some are forgotten. During Easter, the eggs are still rolled and the traditional Easter meals are made: painted eggs, roasted meat, home-made dried sausage, jellied meats, horseradish, baked pie, curd cheese, butter, salt, consecrated water; the table is decorated with rye and lamb. The children visit village citizens and Easter songs called “lalymka” are sung. In the olden times, on the Holy Saturday, the children had to bring the holy fire from the church in such a way that it would not go out. They carried the fire on the mushroom growing on the tree; on their way home, they tried to keep the flame going in any way they could, so as to bring it still lit. The housewife took the flame and used it to ignite the home’s heart.
