Bishop Ignacy Massalski

Ignacy Jakob Massalski (1726-1794) – Vilnius Bishop, the first chairperson of Education Commission. After the Jesuit Order was closed in 18th century, he laid down the organizational principles of the Education Commission; at the same time, Masalskis acquired Sudervė Manor. Bishop Massalski is called the pioneer of illumination – modern religious and civil consciousness. During the 1794 rebellion, I. Massalski was publicly hanged in Warsaw.
