History of Medininkai

Medininkai is an old settlement, which the written sources mention from 14^th century. One of the first seven Lithuanian churches was established there. During the 14-17^th centuries, Medininkai had Magdeburg rights. In 1432, Duke Žygimantas Kęstutaitis gifted Jonas Goštautas Medininkai, later on, the city was controlled by Ostapas Valavičius. Kazimieras Jogailaitis had residence in Medininkai. His younger son Kazimieras also fancied spending time there.
